Today I want to share the best of my free self-guided London walks for Sunday. These routes will show you the highlights of some of my favorite parts of the UK capital on a day of the week when there’s a lot going on in the areas they go through. They’re some of the best Sunday walking tours in London, and they’re great if you want a richer experience in each neighborhood. I’ve included the routes and maps, too.
London walks on Sunday
Each of these self-guided walking tours is ideal for a Sunday for a unique reason. Whether it’s because there are great local markets taking place that day or there’s a special service you can attend, they’re all perfect for visiting on Sundays.
No matter if you’re looking for a walk in a village-like part of the city, a route that will allow you to explore some of London’s coolest neighborhoods, or a tour that will let you spend a whole day immersing yourself in a new-to-you area, there’s one that will fit your interests.
From north to south, east to west, my walks span the UK capital. Wherever you’re based and whichever area you’re interested in discovering, you’ll find a walk you’ll love.
London Walking Tours
If you want more, I’ve published a lot of free self-guided London walks and pulled them all together in my London walking tours blog post and my London walking map.
There are additional walks outlined in the book London’s Hidden Walks, too. You can get it here. There are more ideas in my London walking books post as well.
And if you’re interested in a guided walk, you can take a look at some of the best and book one here. They’ll let you see the city with an experienced guide and learn more about specific places and themes.
1. Spitalfields Walk
First on my list of the best London walks on Sunday is a tour of Spitalfields. This neighborhood is one of the East End’s most vibrant areas.
Historic houses sit alongside contemporary street art, weekly markets offer vintage treasures and delicious food, and new pop-ups open all the time.
This east London walk goes through the area’s historic streets and markets. Sunday is the best day to do this one because all the markets are open that day (and there are a lot of them).
From the stalls in Old Spitalfields Market to the plethora of markets on Brick Lane, you’ll be spoiled for choice.
If you want to do this one, you can find the route, map, photos, and video on my blog post about a Spitalfields walking tour.
2. Hampstead Walk
Hampstead is next on my list of the best London walks on Sunday. This self-guided walking tour goes through the village-like neighborhood’s streets, offering an in-depth overview of the area, its hidden lanes, and its local pubs.
This one is a great walk if you want to get to know a beautiful north London neighborhood not many visitors get to. From Hampstead High Street to Hampstead Heath, it will show you the highlights.
This north west London walk is perfect for a Sunday because you can have Sunday roast at the Holly Bush or another famous Hampstead pub. Just make sure to book in advance, as it’s a popular thing to do.
If you want to take this tour, you can find the route, map, photos, and video on my Hampstead walk blog post. If you want a longer leg stretch, you can combine it with one of my Hampstead Heath walks.
3. Marylebone Walk
The third of my Sunday walking tours in London is in Marylebone. This lovely part of the city center is known for its great shopping, famous high street, and fun markets.
This self-guided London walking tour will take you down Marylebone High Street, past local cultural institutions like the Wallace Collection and the Sherlock Holmes Museum, and into pretty gardens.
Along the way you’ll go by beloved independent bookshops like Daunt Books and duck into hidden mews streets.
This central London walk is perfect for a Sunday because the weekly Marylebone Farmers’ Market takes place that day.
Centered around Aybrook Street, St Vincent Street, and Moxon Street, it’s a great place to browse the food stalls and pick up something delicious for lunch.
If you love Marylebone shopping, local food markets, and cultural attractions, you can find the route, map, and photos on my Marylebone walking tour blog post.
4. Westminster Walk
Next on my list of London Sunday walks is one in Westminster. This part of the UK capital is home to a lot of famous landmarks, including the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, and Westminster Abbey.
My self-guided London walking tour will take you from Parliament Square to Smith Square and beyond. It covers highlights both big and small, and it’s for you if you like major attractions and hidden corners alike.
This walk is perfect for a Sunday if you want to attend a service at Westminster Abbey. Not only will you get to see the famous church for free, but you’ll also get to experience what it was intended for.
If this one appeals to you, you can find the route, map, photos, and video on my blog post about a self-guided walking tour of Westminster.
5. Richmond Walk
The fifth of my London walks for Sunday is out west in Richmond. One of the prettiest neighborhoods in London, this area is worth a trip for its waterfront charm and expansive parks.
This walk will show you the best of the area, from the little lanes to the riverside pubs, colorful rowboats on the Thames, and Ted Lasso filming locations. At the end, it will give you two options for continuing your walk in the way that best suits your interests.
This one is perfect for a Sunday for two reasons. First, Richmond is a bit farther away from central London than some of the other walks on my list. Going on a weekend will allow you to spend a day here.
Second, the Duck Pond Market is only open on the weekends, so you’ll get to explore it if you go on a Sunday. It’s a fun place to pick up a snack to enjoy by the river.
If this one appeals to you, you can see the route, map, photos, and video on my blog post about a walking tour of Richmond.
6. Street Art Tour
The sixth of my London walks for Sunday is my self-guided street art tour. This one is themed, and it focuses on the colorful murals in east London’s Spitalfields and Shoreditch.
These areas have some of the best street art in London, and they’re ideal places to walk around and take in the colors. They’re some of the coolest neighborhoods in London, and they’re just the spots if you like discovering the city’s edgier side.

If this one appeals, you can find the route, map, photos, and video on my blog post about a self-guided street art tour of London.

This self-guided walk will transport you through past and present, into big squares and little courtyards, and to historic halls and modern skyscrapers. It’s ideal if you like history and architecture in equal measure.
This one is perfect for a Sunday if you want to attend a service at St Paul’s Cathedral. Not only will you get to see Sir Christopher Wren’s famous church for free, but also a firsthand experience of what it was created for.

8. Greenwich Walk
My next Sunday walking tour in London is in leafy Greenwich. This part of the city is known for its maritime history, royal residences, famous observatory, covered market, and great views.
The route will guide you from the Thames to the Royal Observatory and through the markets and side streets. It’s ideal if you like a mix of culture, food, and history.
This south east London walk is perfect for a Sunday because it’s slightly farther from the city center than some of the others. It’s fun to arrive by boat from central London and spend a whole day exploring the markets, museums, shops, and green spaces.
If you’re up for going on this one, head to my Greenwich walking tour blog post. It has the full route, photos, video, and map.
9. Dulwich Walk
My next Sunday walk in London is in Dulwich village. Dulwich is one of the prettiest south London areas. With a beautiful park, a famous picture gallery, and elegant houses, the neighborhood is ripe for exploring.
This walk will take you through Dulwich’s leafy streets and green spaces like Dulwich Park. It’s ideal if you want to explore more of south London and feel like you’re a million miles from the city at the same time.
This one is ideal for a Sunday for two reasons. First, Dulwich is a bit farther from central London than some other areas on my list, and there’s a lot to see and do in and around the area.
It’s helpful if you can allow yourself time to spend a day to discover all the best things to do in Dulwich and neighboring East Dulwich, Forest Hill, and Herne Hill.
Second, there are some great Sunday markets around Dulwich. From Herne Hill Market to the market at the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill, there are plenty of places to browse the wares while you’re in the area.
