In recent years I’ve shared my suggestions for London itineraries on the blog. From 1 day to 5, I’ve recommended my favorite ways to discover the city in whatever number of days you have here. They’ve been some of my most popular posts, so today I want to share my itinerary for 6 days in London with you.

6 Days in London

6 Days in London

With 6 days you can explore a lot of London and travel around a bit more. It’s a great amount of time to see the UK capital and beyond.

I recommend starting with my 5 day London itinerary and adding a second day trip, taking an overnight trip somewhere in the UK, or spending more time discovering London.

If you add a second day trip, my summer, winter, spring, and autumn day trip guides can help you choose one that’s right for the season.

Or if you want to find one that fits your interests, my 15 day trips from London and 17 day trips from London posts can help you.

There’s more about day trips in the beautiful Escape London: Days Out within Easy Reach of London book, too. You can get it here.

Overnight Trips from London

If you want to take an overnight trip instead, I’ve written guides to 7 overnight getaways from London and 16 overnight trips in the UK.

Another popular alternative is to go to Paris for a night. It’s easy on the train and a good way to see another European capital while you’re in the region. You’ll have enough time to hit the highlights and see the best Paris landmarks while you’re there.

6 Days in London and Only London

If you don’t want to leave the city, I suggest spending the last of your 6 days in London exploring places that fit your personality.

I’ve written about how to choose the right London neighborhood for your style, and if you find one that suits you it’s a good opportunity to go and get under its skin.

You can also spend your day thematically. If you love books as much as I do, you can use my guides to the best places for books in London, the best specialty bookstores in London, and the best independent bookshops in London to craft a day of literary indulgence.

And don’t forget to bring along a London book to inspire you. You can even do my self-guided London literary walk if you want to.

If markets are more your thing, you can use my guides to 14 London markets and 7 under-the-radar London markets for inspiration.

North Cross Road Market

Or you can seek out things to do based on when you’re visiting London. My guide to 51 things to do throughout the year can help you find annual events, festivals, and celebrations to explore while you’re in town.

Another option is to tailor your last day’s itinerary to the day of the week. If it’s a Saturday, you can follow my guide to a perfect Saturday in London.

If it’s a Sunday, you can explore the Columbia Road Flower Market, Old Spitalfields Market, and the Sunday markets on Brick Lane.

London in 6 Days

However you choose to spend your 6 days in London, I hope you enjoy them. I’ve spent over 10 years here and still discover new places all the time, so I’m sure you’ll have no trouble filling your itinerary.

  1. This is a great post for consolidating so many references and lists you’ve posted previously for trip planning purposes. This is a page I will come back to in the future! 🙂

  2. Such helpful content. We are soon making a 40th trip around the Uk exactly 40 years after we first did it in a small camper van. But spending the preceding 7 days in London where I have lived in the past for a total of three years. Your info about different suburbs of London are super interesting and help me plan a varied week without doing the major monuments etc we have already visited many times
