Spring has arrived in London! The daffodils are out in the parks and the days are getting longer and warmer every week. If you’ll be traveling to the UK capital in the next few months and want an insider’s guide to what to bring, here’s my spring packing list for London. These 5 things will help you pack light and arrive ready to live (and look) like a local.
Spring Packing List for London
Spring is a fickle season in London. Some days feel like winter, others could pass for July. Figuring out what to wear in London in March, April, and May can be tricky.
When I first moved here I felt like I was always dressing for the wrong weather, but after over 10 spring seasons I’ve gotten it down to an art. I hope my list of what to wear in London this time of year will help you do the same.
Spring Coat
As with all the other seasons, spring in London requires a coat. I like to wear a trench with good lining in the spring since it keeps me warmer than my summer coat but not as toasty as my winter one.
It’s great for dressing up and down depending on where I’m going, and it’s versatile enough to go with anything I wear. If you’re in the UK, get one here. If you’re elsewhere, get one here.
Brogues or Trainers
The next item on my spring packing list for London is a good pair of brogues or trainers (sneakers if you’re in the US). I didn’t know what brogues were when I moved to London, but seemingly every woman in the city has a pair or three.
I now swear by these lace-up shoes in spring, when it’s too balmy for boots but not quite hot enough for flats and flip-flops. If you’re in the UK, get them here. If you’re elsewhere, you can get them here.
If you prefer something oh-so-comfortable and stylish, trainers are a good option. You can get them here.
Spring Scarf
The next essential item for London in spring is a scarf. As with any other season, it helps keep me warm if temperatures suddenly drop, and is a good accessory for adding color to an outfit.
I like light, bright scarves for spring, as they get me in the mood for the season. If you’re in the UK, get one here. If you’re elsewhere, these are just the things.
Colorful Sweaters
As with scarves, good colorful sweaters are key for spring. London can be chilly through mid-May, and a light sweater is just the thing to keep me warm.
I usually pair it with a T-shirt underneath in case I need to shed a layer when it gets hot in the afternoon. If you’re in the UK, get them here. If you’re elsewhere, these are perfect.
Camera
The last thing on my spring packing list for London is a good camera.
Spring is my favorite time of year in the city, not least because the parks and gardens are bursting with crocuses, daffodils, tulips, and blossoms. I love capturing their colors with my DSLR.
I use a Canon EOS R5 with a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM (standard zoom) lens. It’s an investment, but well worth it. If you’re in the UK, you can get it here. If you’re elsewhere, you can get it here.
What to Wear in London in Spring
To recap, here’s my spring packing list for London:
1. Spring coat
2. Brogues or Trainers
3. Spring scarf
4. Colorful sweaters
5. Camera
In addition to these, I still recommend the umbrella from my summer packing list. It’s good to have one no matter what time of year it is in London.
Follow this packing list and you’ll be all set for your trip, rain or sun. Happy travels!

London is so pretty in the Spring! Great tips
Thanks!
we’ll be there in a few weeks, and packing is something that is stressing us all out. i think layers are key!
b
Yeah, layers will be a good idea at this time of year. I hope you have a great trip!
Thanks for these tips! Will be there early May. Are these brogues comfortable to walk in? They look a bit stiff. We will be spending only 2 days in London, then to Stamford, then to Scotland. Would the brogues take me everywhere?
You’re welcome! The brogues are great once you break them in.
Great review! We will be there the last week of May. Would we use the Spring list?
Thanks!
Yeah, the spring list will still be relevant then (unless there’s a heatwave).
These tips are spot on! We visited for the first time at the end of March/ first of April last year, and I followed your suggestions almost exactly. I was able to pack 10 days worth of clothing in one carry on. I can’t wait to go back!
I’m so glad to hear that!
Thank you for adding links! I will be there on June 8, 2023! Any other tips would be great!
