I’ve spent nights in many hotels in the city, and I have a number of favorites that offer a unique and unusual experience. From Instagram followers to travel planning clients, I get a lot of messages asking me for my recommendations on where to stay in London.
The truth is that the UK capital is vast and the landmarks and attractions are spread across the city, so there’s no one correct place to stay.
The best hotel depends on your personal tastes and which neighborhood and type of accommodation best tick your boxes. If you’re looking for a themed place to stay in London, there are loads of options.

There are all kinds of options when it comes to themed hotels in London. From places with Harry Potter-themed rooms to boutique boltholes with artsy decor, there’s a property to fit every taste and interest.
The hotels I’ve included in my list are spread across London. While many are in central locations like the West End, I’ve included a few in hip areas like Hackney. They’ll let you live like a local in some of the coolest neighborhoods in London.
Whichever area you choose to stay in and whatever unique London hotel you pick, I’m sure you’ll have a great time visiting the UK capital.
1. Treehouse Hotel
I’ll start my list of London themed hotels with one of the most unusual places to stay in the city. The Treehouse Hotel not only has nature-led decor, but also a nest-like rooftop bar and guest rooms decorated like childhood clubhouses.
Situated near the famous BBC Broadcasting House building and a quick walk from Regent Street and Bond Street, it’s in a great location in the heart of London in Marylebone.
Add to that amazing views of the London Eye, Regent’s Park, The Shard, and Canary Wharf, and this is an all-around great place to stay. If this sounds like your kind of home-away-from-home, you can book a room at the Treehouse Hotel here.
2. Georgian House Hotel
Next on my list of the best themed hotels in London is the Georgian House Hotel. Centrally located near Victoria station in Pimlico, this historic Grade II-listed townhouse is known for its Harry Potter-themed rooms.
The individually-designed Wizard Chambers feature stained-glass windows, stone walls, trunks, cauldrons in fireplaces, tapestries, four-poster beds with velvet curtains, and a smattering of magical paraphernalia.
If that’s not reason enough for a Potterhead to stay here, the hotel also offers an enchanted Wizard Afternoon Tea, potion classes in its Pimlico Pantry, and other spellbinding experiences for guests.

3. Ruby Lucy
If you’re looking for a London themed hotel that’s both quirky and affordable, look no further than Ruby Lucy. Centrally located on the South Bank, it offers “lean luxury” at prices that won’t break the bank.
Situated near Waterloo station and designed with a dusting of carnival magic, this place is a great alternative to chain hotels and standard accommodation in London.
The decor at Ruby Lucy focuses on rich, dark hues and bright brass accents. Subtle stripes are offset by circus drums and juggling pins.

Another of my top picks for London themed hotels is The Rubens at the Palace. This historic luxury hotel by Buckingham Palace is not only in an ideal location in Victoria, but also overlooks the Royal Mews.
The hotel offers royal-themed rooms and suites, each with a distinct character. They’re all decorated in honor of past British monarchs.
With rich silks, brocade, velvet, king-size beds, and original oil paintings, guest bedrooms offer an elegantly regal experience.

5. The Fox and Anchor
If you love pubs, the Fox and Anchor is the perfect London themed hotel for you. This atmospheric heritage watering hole has guest rooms upstairs, and they’re cozy and stylishly decorated.
Right in Smithfield, the pub is centrally located and makes an ideal base for exploring everywhere from the City of London to Bloomsbury and Clerkenwell.

6. Sunborn London Yacht Hotel
Another of the best options for themed hotels in London is the Sunborn. This unusual place is housed on a superyacht in Royal Victoria Dock. It offers accommodation with city views, dining options including afternoon tea, and high-end guest rooms.
The Sunborn is located right by ExCeL London in the East End, so it’s a great choice for a place to stay if you’re in town for a trade show or conference and you want to enjoy a maritime-themed hotel. If you do, you can book a room here.
7. St Martins Lane Hotel
Right near Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square in the West End, St Martins Lane Hotel in Covent Garden is another of my favorite London themed hotels.
Acclaimed industrial architect and designer Philippe Starck conceptualized the hotel’s aesthetic. He created a surrealist wonderland viewed through the looking glass of eccentric British taste. The result is a truly whimsical experience.
When I stayed at St Martins Lane Hotel I loved its central location and sleek contemporary style. Stepping inside truly felt like crossing the threshold into a more design-led world. If that sounds like your kind of thing, you can book a room here.
8. The Mandrake
If you’re looking for a 5-star London themed hotel, The Mandrake is just the place for you. This boutique hotel in Fitzrovia offers stylish guest rooms with exclusive art displays and opulent decor.
The restaurant and bars feature a fusion of art, design, and culture. Whether you want a South American-themed dinner or an ethnobotanical drink, this place has something unique to tempt your taste buds.

9. The Exhibitionist Hotel
Another of my top picks for London themed hotels is The Exhibitionist Hotel in South Kensington. This cool place is all about art, and it offers rotating exhibitions in an intimate atmosphere.
From the funky lobby portraits to the individually-designed corridors, there’s something to catch your eye everywhere you go. The hotel channels style, chic, and cool.
Conveniently, The Exhibitionist is also located within walking distance of the South Kensington tube station and cultural institutions like the V&A, Science Museum, and Natural History Museum. If you like the sound of that, you can book a room here.
10. Courthouse Hotel
Another of the most unique themed hotels in London is Courthouse Hotel. This 5-star luxury property in Soho is unusual in that it’s housed in what was once a magistrates’ court.
The Grade-II listed property retains many original features, so you can channel your inner judge while you’re here.
It also has a trendy cocktail bar, award-winning restaurants, a spa, a fitness center, and a roof terrace. It’s home to one of the biggest private cinemas in London, too.
Better yet, Courthouse Hotel is close to Regent Street and famous department stores like Liberty. If that sounds like your kind of thing, you can book a room here.
11. Zedwell Piccadilly Circus
If you’re looking for a London themed hotel with a focus on wellness, you’ll find it in the Zedwell Piccadilly Circus. This place is a haven of tranquility in the city’s busy West End.
A lifestyle concept hotel, it’s designed to promote wellbeing and sleep. Every element of the property is tailored to help guests unwind and relax.
Which is great, because Piccadilly Circus is in the thick of things. Close to some of London’s most famous attractions, the shops on Regent Street, and the movie theaters in Leicester Square, it’s a buzzing place. If a balance appeals, you can book a room here.
12. The Zetter Townhouse Clerkenwell
Next on my list of London themed hotels is The Zetter Townhouse Clerkenwell. Tucked away on a side street in the heart of a historic neighborhood, this place describes itself as something akin to a “private residence of an eccentric and fabulous ancestor”.
The independently-owned, 13-bedroom Georgian townhouse hotel is best known for its decor and award-winning cocktail lounge. Both blend all things cool and traditional to wow guests who appreciate great style.
Clerkenwell is an ideal place to live like a local in London, and this hotel makes a unique home-away-from-home. If you like the idea of that, you can book a room here.
13. Mama Shelter
Located in one of the East End’s most hipster London neighborhoods, another of the best themed hotels in London is Mama Shelter.
This place immerses guests in all things cool, from a playfully-designed restaurant to Japanese-style karaoke rooms and a garden bar.
Accommodation here features sleek design elements and stylish touches. Add to that a gym and a spacious lobby for socializing, and there’s a lot to love about this hotel.

14. Artist Residence
Another of my favorite London themed hotels is the Artist Residence. As the name implies, this quirky boutique hotel is all about art. It exudes eccentricity as much as it features design-led flourishes.
I’ve breakfasted here many times and toured the rooms once, and it’s a place I could move into given the chance. The unique decor in the rooms features everything from reclaimed wood to tea crates and antler chandeliers.
Located just west of Westminster in Pimlico, it’s in a great central location with a neighborhood feel. If this sounds good to your inner artist, you can book a room here.
15. The Megaro Hotel
Across the street from King’s Cross and St Pancras stations, The Megaro Hotel is another great themed accommodation in London. Describing itself as a place of constant (r)evolution that’s high in colors and bold in flavors, it brings strong style to the fore.
The first time I saw The Megaro Hotel I was wowed by its rampaging patterns and rebellious flair. The outside is a riot of color, and the bedrooms offer a seductive mix of tactile surfaces. Many pay homage to the area’s alternative past, too.
Given how popular King’s Cross is for shopping and dining, it’s a great place to base yourself. It’s also convenient if you’re arriving or departing on the Eurostar. If you like the sound of all that, you can book a room here.
16. Hazlitt’s
Hazlitt’s is another of the best London themed hotels. Right in the heart of Soho, this place is known for the fact that every room is unique and full of character.
Set in a series of conjoined 18th-century Georgian houses, Hazlitt’s offers heritage and style in equal measure. Think old-world English antiques and lots of period charm, and you’ll get the picture.
Soho is home to some of the best restaurants and nightlife in London, so it’s a great place to be based while you’re in the city. If that sounds good to you, you can book a room here.

Another of my favorite London themed hotels is The Cumberland Hotel. This place is not only in an ideal location by Hyde Park, but also features musical decor and ambiance.
If you stay a night at The Cumberland, you’ll love the hotel’s memorabilia, nightly live entertainment, and eye-catching bar. If you love all things music, it’s the place for you.

18. The Portobello Hotel
If you want to stay in a themed hotel in one of the most beloved local neighborhoods in London, The Portobello Hotel is just the ticket.
This luxurious boutique bolthole features interiors that channel the bohemian spirit of Notting Hill and the famous Portobello Road Market. It’s a unique place to stay if you like immersing yourself in a local area.
This quirky hotel is also popular with celebrities. Rumor has it Johnny Depp and Kate Moss once bathed in champagne in Room 16. If that sounds like your glass of fizz, you can book a room here.
19. Twenty Nevern Square Hotel
In residential Earls Court, another of my top picks for London themed hotels is Twenty Nevern Square Hotel. This 4-star boutique accommodation features individually-designed guest rooms decorated in a unique mix of European and Oriental styles.
Set in a Victorian brick building overlooking a leafy garden square, Twenty Nevern Square Hotel offers guests a taste of affordable luxury.
Earls Court is conveniently located near landmarks like the South Kensington museums. If you’re looking to live like a local and see the sights while you’re at it, this is a great place to do it. You can book a room here.
BONUS: Hagrid’s Hut and Harry’s House
As an added bonus, I’ve included a couple places that are neither hotels nor in London. But they’re quirky places to stay near the city, so I can’t help mentioning them.
As the names imply, Hagrid’s Hut and Harry’s House are Harry Potter-themed apartment rentals. Conveniently located near the Warner Brothers Studio Tour in Watford, they’re great places for muggles to channel their inner wizards.
