Today I want to bring you my guide to things to do in Crouch End. A couple months ago one of my good friends in Hampstead sent me a Washington Post article about off-the-beaten-path neighborhoods in London.
Things to Do in Crouch End
My boyfriend and I used the article to visit Muswell Hill and had a great time exploring this north London neighborhood.
Since heavy London tourist crowds are beating the usual paths in Soho and Westminster, we recently decided it was time to explore another under-the-radar London neighborhood.
To that end, the other evening we headed off to experience all the great things to do in Crouch End.
This area to the east of Hampstead and its sister neighborhood, Highgate, has a lot going for it.
After taking the bus from Hampstead, we arrived in Crouch End with few expectations and were pleasantly surprised by the neighborhood.
Cafes, Restaurants, and Shops
In addition to having several mouth-watering bakeries including a branch of our Hampstead favorite, Gail’s, Crouch End was chock full of great clothing boutiques, design stores, and furniture shops.
There were also several restaurants–an Italian trattoria and a French bistro in particular–that piqued our appetites.
On our walk through the area I picked up a few goodies at Treehouse, a local Crouch End store selling everything from beautiful cards and paper to funky jewelry and delicious bath products.
We then took a walk through an outdoor store and home decor shop that got us excited to continue planting our garden at home.
We also ducked into Indish, a great design boutique with Marimekko home products and Mandarina Duck handbags galore.
Landmarks
Another of our favorite things to do in Crouch End was discover the area’s landmarks.
The 19th-century Crouch End Clock Tower is a local icon. It sits at the intersection of Crouch End Broadway, Broadway Parade, and Park Road, and marks the heart of the neighborhood.
Another local landmark is a pub called The Queens. This grade II-listed former hotel was built at the turn of the 20th century. Its interior features original Art Nouveau glass, and its opulent exterior is beautiful to see.
Crouch End and Beyond
With our adventurous visit to Muswell Hill a few weeks ago and now a trip discovering all the great things to do in Crouch End under our belts, we’re two for two with new London neighborhoods.
As the year progresses and tourist season peaks we’ll make sure to get around to as many more non-touristy locales as we can. I hope you do, too.
