Lady’s Muswell Hill Guide

I want to share my guide to Muswell Hill, London with you today. With its great shopping streets, stunning views, walking paths, golf club, and Alexandra Palace, this London neighborhood is the perfect place to live like a local. Read on to discover the best things to do in Muswell Hill.

Muswell Hill

Located in north London, Muswell Hill is one of my favorite under-the-radar London neighborhoods. It’s the perfect place to get into the authentic side of the UK capital and experience a part of the city most visitors (and many locals) rarely see.

How to Get to Muswell Hill

While it’s not on the tube, it’s easy to get to Muswell Hill by rail. Alexandra Palace station is served by trains from central London hubs like Moorgate.

You can also walk to Muswell Hill from other north London neighborhoods like Highgate (which is on the Northern Line of the London Underground) and Crouch End.

Once you’re here, you’ll find a range of things to do in Muswell Hill that will make you fall in love with this place.

Alexandra Palace

Since it’s the most famous spot in Muswell Hill, I’ll start with Alexandra Palace (or Ally Pally, as locals call it).

This enormous Grade II-listed entertainment venue is perched high on a hill and offers spectacular views of London. It was built in the 19th century, and its eye-catching facade still wows visitors today.

Inside, you can do everything from see performances to ice skate. I’ve even been to Secret Cinema at Alexandra Palace.

It’s also home to the BBC Tower. On November 2, 1936, the BBC launched the world’s first full television service from here.

In early November, the annual Ally Pally Fireworks Festival is London’s biggest and brightest Bonfire Night display. It features live music, DJs, carnival rides, bonfires, street food, film screenings, a beer festival, ice skating, and more.

Alexandra Park in Muswell Hill

Alexandra Palace is surrounded by Alexandra Park, a green space with everything from a boating lake to a rose garden, sports fields, cafes, and walking paths. It’s a great place to stroll around, go paddle boating, and soak up the views of the city below.

Alexandra Palace Farmers’ Market

Muswell Hill is also famous for the Alexandra Palace Farmers’ Market. This weekly food market is a great place to pick up something delicious on Sundays. With a variety of stalls, it has something for every taste.

Whether you’re looking for pies, cakes, biscuits, relishes, fish, olives, or fresh fruit and vegetables, the Ally Pally Farmers’ Market has it all.

Muswell Hill Broadway

Not far from Alexandra Park, Muswell Hill Broadway is one of the best streets in the area. It’s home to everything from shops and cafes to pubs, restaurants, and cinemas.

A walk down it will show you some of the best independent culinary and retail establishments in north London.

The surrounding streets are equally good for food and clothing, too. There are lots of great places to catch the eye on Fortis Green Road and Muswell Hill Road.

The triangle where Priory Road and Park Road meet Muswell Hill has pubs, restaurants, and cafes, too. They’re good places to go after a walk in Alexandra Park.

Muswell Hill Parkland Walk

And speaking of walks, the Parkland Walk is one of the most unique places for a stroll in London.

This 3.1-mile (5-kilometer) linear path follows an old railway line that once ran between Finsbury Park and Alexandra Palace. It goes through Stroud Green, Crouch End, Highgate, and Muswell Hill along the way.

The Parkland Walk is divided in two parts. Parkland Walk North goes from Highgate Wood to Muswell Hill and Alexandra Park. It’s a great place to go if you like getting into nature in the city.

There are lots of trees and good views along the way, so make sure to bring your camera with you.

Side Streets

In addition to big attractions like Alexandra Palace and Muswell Hill Broadway, the area has a lot of side streets that are worth discovering. This is particularly true because the topography makes for stunning views from a lot of them.

My favorite place to photograph Muswell Hill is a street called Hillfield Park. This sloping road is lined with picture-pretty houses that frame the London skyline beautifully.

The Avenue is also lovely, and it culminates in Alexandra Park Road, where there are some great pubs and independent shops.
