Spring is coming. If you’re like me, you’re over winter and ready for some sunshine. If you want to know where to travel in spring, today I bring you A Lady in London’s 13 awe-inspiring spring travel destinations.
Spring Travel Destinations
The places on my list range from cities to countryside, festivals to gardens. They’re all fun places to travel in spring, whether for their floral beauty or their celebratory atmosphere.
Spring Travel Destinations for Nature
1. Keukenhof Gardens, Holland
One of my favorite places to get into the seasonal spirit is at Keukenhof Gardens in the Netherlands. I spent my birthday here once wandering among the tulips and soaking up the brilliant colors of a million spring bulbs.
The gardens are spectacular and well worth a day trip from Amsterdam. This is truly one of the best spring travel destinations for flower lovers.
2. Kent, England
Kent is the Garden of England, and there’s no better time to visit a garden than in spring. The county is home to famous gardens like those at Sissinghurst Castle and Hever Castle, as well as fairy-tale forests full of bluebells.
3. Washington, DC, USA
There’s nothing quite so inspiring as cherry blossoms after a cold winter, and Washington, DC has them in abundance.
All around the Jefferson Memorial and Washington Monument, the tiny pink flowers bring the city into the season with ceremonial color.
They make DC one of the best spring travel destinations for those who love cities and nature in equal measure.
And if you’re in Asia, you can experience a similarly breathtaking sight in many parts of Japan.
Spring Travel Destinations for Cities
4. Istanbul, Turkey
After a cold winter, Istanbul emerges victorious in the spring. The vibrant tulips at the Topkapi Palace alone are worth a trip, their velvety purples and canary yellows bringing the Bosphorus alive with seasonal hues.
Flowers aren’t the only reason to visit Istanbul in spring, either. The city is beautiful year-round, and highlights like the Grand Bazaar are stunning to see.
5. Sevilla, Spain
If Istanbul is a feast for the eyes in the spring, Sevilla is a treat for the nose. The city’s orange blossoms fill the air with the sweetest smell during the season, making every step a delight for visitors and locals alike.
And with festivals like Semana Santa and Feria, the other senses have a reason to celebrate, too. This city is one of the best spring travel destinations all around.
6. Marrakech, Morocco
With cool, wet winters and scorching hot summers, Marrakech can be an inhospitable place to travel. But late spring sees pleasant weather and warm-but-not-too-warm temperatures.
That means spring is the perfect time to explore the souks, soak up the sun on a riad rooftop, and wander through the famous Djemaa el-Fna square at sunset.
I’ve visited the Red City three times in spring, and I can personally vouch for how worthwhile it is to travel to this part of Morocco between March and May. If you need guidance, my itinerary for 6 days in Marrakech can help you plan your trip.
7. London, UK
I know I’m biased, but I can’t help putting London on my list of the best spring travel destinations. The UK capital bursts with color in spring as parks and gardens around the city fill with tulips, daffodils, and other seasonal bulbs.
From the spring gardens in Holland Park to the beautiful wisteria in London, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the season in the city.
Spring in London also means events like the Chelsea Flower Show, Chelsea in Bloom, and Belgravia in Bloom, three of the best events for garden lovers in the UK.
Spring Travel Destinations for Wine
8. Santiago, Chile
While spring means rebirth in the Northern Hemisphere, this time of year is all about the harvest in the southern. That means places like Santiago, Chile number among the top spring travel destinations.
The wineries in Santiago’s Maipo Valley are not only beautiful to see, but also easily accessible from the city center and perfect to visit during the grape collecting months.
9. Melbourne, Australia
The same can be said for Australia. One of my best memories of my time in Melbourne was a wine tasting trip to the Yarra Valley.
While we wait for the tulips to emerge from the northern ground, we can head to the south to watch the grapes roll in. It’s a great way to get the best of both worlds when it comes to spring travel destinations.
10. Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, South Africa
And let’s not forget South Africa, a country with some of the best and most underrated wine growing regions in the world. It’s a great place to travel in spring.
From Pinotage to Cape Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon to Chardonnay, areas like Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, and the Worcester Wine Route—which are easy drives from Cape Town—have gorgeous vineyards and great food to pair with the wines.
Spring Travel Destinations for Festivals
11. Hay Festival in Wales
Calling all book lovers! The annual Hay Festival is one of the world’s foremost literary festivals, and it takes place every spring in beautiful surroundings near the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales.
It’s a great place to go for literary inspiration and the perfect escape from urban life. Or as Bill Clinton put it, the ‘Woodstock of the mind’.
If you love books and festivals in equal measure, this is one of the best spring travel destinations for you.
12. Songkran in Laos
While the new year festival of Songrkan is more closely associated with Thailand than Laos, Luang Prabang has an amazing water fight to celebrate it.
And even if it didn’t, the city is one of the most magical in Asia and worthy of a trip with or without a spring festival on. From temples to markets, there’s a lot to take in here.
13. Primavera Sound in Barcelona
For music lovers, the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona is one of the best spring travel destinations.
The annual event brings thousands of people to the Catalan coast for performances from some of the world’s most popular artists, as well as great new and independent acts.

Great list! I’m very much looking forward to spring and exploring without wearing a thousand layers of clothing 🙂
Yeah! I can’t wait to put my winter coat in the back of my closet!
awaiting spring ! and my un-spring destination of Stockholm:))
Nice! I went to Stockholm in April once and it snowed the whole time. It was still pretty, though!
Sevilla has to be my favourite destination 😉
Nice! Yeah, I love visiting Sevilla in the springtime!
I think I love all these suggestions. I admit I didn’t enjoy my experience of Morocco though but only for certain reasons and nothing to do with the place itself.
I’m off to Italy in July basing ourselves in Florence – any suggestions on what not to miss in Rome or Venice in a day?
That’s great you’re visiting Italy! There are lots of recommendations for those cities in my blog posts about them, so feel free to head over and take a look.
I need to go to Washington DC for a short mini-trip! I’m only three hours away and haven’t visited once in the spring time! I’m going to Barcelona in April for the first time. Can’t wait! 🙂
Great post. I’m looking forward to the lovely weather.
Yeah, DC is amazing when the cherry blossoms are out! You’ll love Barcelona, too!
Love this post – it’s giving me such wanderlust! I just started planning for my spring trips and I’m so excited!
xx, Caitlin
That’s great! I’m glad you found inspiration in it!
Your post has given me a major case of spring fever. And, as someone from DC, I can definitely recommend seeing the cherry blossoms — when the wind blows, it’s as if you’re inside a snow globe of pink snow.
Yeah, seeing the cherry blossoms in DC was definitely one of the most amazing things I’ve done on my travels!
Spring needs to hurry up. My winter shoes and jeans are just about to die, but I can’t force myself to buy new ones when ALL THIS PRETTINESS is just around the corner!
Agreed! I hope it comes quickly!
Im so glad you added Istanbul to the list! We went two years ago in early April, and I was in LOVE. Every time I tell people they must visit Istanbul in the spring for the tulips, they attempt to correct me – “oh, you mean, Holland, right?” They have no idea! We will be in Sevilla in a few weeks, and I really hope spring will have arrived by then!
That’s great! I’m glad you agree about Istanbul. It’s so pretty in the spring! Have a great time in Sevilla!
I’m heading to Keukenhof in April! Can’t wait!!
Amazing! You’ll love it there!
Ah I love spring. Would love to visit any of these destinations then! I’ll be heading to Iceland for my springtime vacation – hopefully it’s just as nice 🙂
Nice! I went to Iceland in April once and had a great time. I hope you enjoy your trip!
These are beautiful destinations, especially Morocco! I’ve always wanted to visit Japan in the cherry blossom season and to see the lavender fields in France in the spring. Hopefully sooner than later 🙂
Yeah! Those are all great places to travel in spring.
