Today I’m continuing my themed itinerary series with a London itinerary for mews lovers. If you love exploring the UK capital’s prettiest streets, this one is for you.
London Itinerary for the Best London Mews
This itinerary will show you London’s loveliest mews streets and take you around to some of the prettiest among them. If you don’t know what a mews is or want more background, start here.
The itinerary covers 2 mornings and afternoons, but you can mix and match to tailor it to the length of time you’ll be in London.
London Itinerary for the Best London Mews: Day 1 – Morning
Begin the first day of your London itinerary in Kensington. This area has some of the best London mews, and many of them are in easy walking distance of one another.
I like starting at Kynance Mews. This beauty is particularly pretty in spring and autumn, when wisteria and Virginia creeper bring it alive with color.
It’s beautiful at any time of year, though, so it’s worth a trip no matter when you’re around.
From Kynance Mews, it’s easy to explore Cornwall Mews South, Cornwall Mews West, and Osten Mews. They’re all unique in their own right, either for colorful houses or vine-clad facades.
London Itinerary for the Best London Mews: Day 1 – Afternoon
When you get hungry for lunch, make your way to Queen’s Gate Mews. It’s near the others and has a pub tucked away in one corner. It’s a great place to continue your wanderings and fuel up on classic British food at the same time.
After lunch you can explore Elvaston Mews, Petersham Mews, and Atherstone Mews, all of which are near Queen’s Gate Mews. You’ll find more arches and colorful doors here. You might even spot a vintage car or two.
When you’re done, it’s a quick walk to South Kensington. More mews await you here, and it won’t be long until you’re in love with them. Stanhope Mews South is one of my favorites, not least for its picture-pretty houses and greenery.
Not far away, Cranley Mews is one of the longest in the area and full of delightful surprises. From pink details to doors with flags painted on them, it’s a fun one to explore.
From Cranley Mews, you’ll find more of the best London mews closer to South Kensington station. Reece Mews and Kendrick Mews have pretty houses and a great ski-themed mural to admire.
Manson Mews has a beautiful row of pastel houses, and Queensberry Mews West has fun cross streets to discover.
If you’re still around when the sun goes down, there are lots of good places to eat and drink around South Kensington station. It’s a great place to end a day of exploring and start a night out in London.
London Itinerary for the Best London Mews: Day 2 – Morning
Start the second day of your London itinerary in Notting Hill. This part of the city has more great mews to explore, not to mention markets and shops.
You can begin at Pencombe Mews. This curving beauty will lure you in and show you one of the area’s most unique mews. Don’t miss the green doors as you go.
Another great Notting Hill mews is Colville Mews. This quiet street has colorful houses and is a good place to get a mix of peace and exploration.
But perhaps the most famous mews in Notting Hill is St Luke’s Mews. It was a filming location for the movie Love Actually, and its houses reveal the details locals love about the best London mews.
London Itinerary for the Best London Mews: Day 2 – Afternoon
When it’s time for lunch, there’s no shortage of options in Notting Hill. Portobello Road and Westbourne Grove are full of good places to eat, and you’ll have no problem finding something to suit your preferences.
After lunch, head into neighboring Holland Park. My favorite mews in this London neighborhood is Holland Park Mews. The long rows of houses feature external staircases, and the colors and flowers make for great photo opportunities.
After exploring Holland Park Mews, make your way through Holland Park (the actual green space) back to Kensington.
There are some great mews near the southern end of the park in Kensington, and Drayson Mews is one of them. I love the painted facades on the shops at the northern end.
Across Kensington High Street, Adam and Eve Mews not only has a fun name, but also pretty houses.
If evening is setting in by the time you’ve gotten here, there are a lot of good places to go for dinner around Kensington High Street. There’s nightlife, too, so it’s a good place to start your night.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this London itinerary for mews lovers. There are a lot more of these streets dotted throughout the capital, so if you want to explore more, you can use my blog posts about the prettiest London mews and the best London mews as guides.
You can also use my self-guided walking tours to follow specific routes through Kensington, South Kensington, Notting Hill, and Holland Park.
There will be more themed London itineraries to come, so stay tuned for the next one in a week. In the interim, you can find all my itineraries here.
