Today I want to bring you my review of The Grill at The Dorchester restaurant in London. This Park Lane establishment in Mayfair is a great place to have a traditional meal with a modern twist.

The Grill at The Dorchester

There are entirely too many restaurants in London. Well, not too many, but enough that I could spend every night of the next year eating at a different restaurant and still not come close to having tried a fraction of them.

But why would I want to do that when there are some restaurants worth going back to? Like The Grill at The Dorchester.

The Grill at The Dorchester Decor

The last time I ate at The Grill at The Dorchester, the decor was all tartan and—according to the hotel’s general manager, with whom I’m having dinner tonight—all wrong.

But this time I walk in to find myself in a low-lit space with a golden aura and one of the most stunning chandeliers I’ve ever seen. The focal point of the room, it looks like a Rococo masterpiece melted, petrified, and frozen. It’s gorgeous.

Behind it is a semi-open kitchen with wall-to-wall copper pots lining a ladder of shelves, and next to it is a long bar with a row of single-diner-friendly bar stools.

A purplish light rises from the floor behind it, drawing my eyes upwards and across the dining room, an open space with white tablecloths and amber-colored glassware. There’s no tartan to be seen.

I sit down at a table along the wall, cozying up to the soft latte-colored leather of the banquette as a pretty cut-crystal coupe fills with champagne.

The Dinner

The Grill at The Dorchester menu sticks with tradition; there’s seafood, steak, and all the comforting sides, as well as a souffle-rich dessert menu that catches my eye.

The food is as good as it was on my first visit, with my scallop starter and salmon main upholding their reputations and my chocolate souffle worth the wait.

The wine pairing is also well done, and the sommelier doesn’t even flinch when I ask for a glass of Pinot Noir between courses (nobody’s perfect!).

The Grill at The Dorchester Review

When dinner is over, I can’t help lingering to soak up the golden rays from the chandelier.

Maybe my inner Californian is hoping they can replace the sunlight that’s been hiding behind London’s gray skies lately, or maybe it’s just the siren call of its petrified arms.

Either way, I’m sold on The Grill at The Dorchester, and glad to have foregone a chance to try another restaurant in London in order to go back.

Given how much I love The Dorchester’s other restaurants and afternoon tea, I might never go anywhere else.
