I was going to write a post today about how spring has finally come to London, but when I woke up this morning there were two inches of spring snow covering everything in sight.

Nonetheless, spring has certainly come to London, if in no other form than the plethora of beautiful flowers that have blanketed every square inch of green space in the city.

In early February the snowdrops emerged, followed by the crocuses and the daffodils. Just this week the tulips and hyacinths started to bloom, and tiny green leaves are finally starting to emerge from the trees.

I spent some of February and most of March traveling, but during the time I spent in London I managed to make my way to a number of parks.

My boyfriend and I spent an incredible day in Kew Gardens during an unseasonably warm February weekend.

We strolled along the paths watching the tiny purple crocuses march along the grass and enjoyed the abundance of green spaces.

We also visited the Pergola Garden and Golders Hill Park, which are right around our neighborhood in Hampstead.

The irises, crocuses and daffodils were all there to greet us, and the ponds and statues made us feel like we were meandering through the garden of our very own stately home.

One of my new favorite spring gardens in London is St James’s Park, where the tulips are emerging from their bulbs and the myriad of waterfowl species are showing off the new additions to their families.

Further afield the gardens are blooming in Cambridge, where I went yesterday with my boyfriend and his parents, who are visiting from out of town.

The cherry blossoms are in full bloom, as are the white daffodils and tulips.

Not only are the flowers blooming, but the days are getting longer and the promise of warm weather is putting everyone in good spirits.

Maybe someday we’ll even get to use our outdoor grill, which this morning was covered in a healthy sheet of spring snow. But it’s better to have a late spring in London than none at all, right?
