Today I want to bring you my review of a Como Shambhala massage at the COMO Metropolitan London hotel spa in Mayfair. It’s a great way to relax in the heart of the UK capital.

Como Shambhala Massage

Winter is coming. Autumn leaves are disappearing from the trees, the sun is setting painfully early, and the weather is rapidly approaching freezing.

Sitting in my icy flat (do you have to pay council tax on an igloo?), I dream of tropical beaches and island sun, but face the fact of frigid fingers.

If only there was a way to escape the winter without leaving London. And then I discover that there is…

Como Shambhala Massage at The Met

My discovery comes when I get invited for a Como Shambhala massage at the COMO Metropolitan London hotel.

The Met, as it’s called by locals, is a COMO Hotels and Resorts property, and is one of the famous luxury hotels on Park Lane.

The hotel borders Hyde Park in luxurious Mayfair, and is in good company with the Four Seasons on one side and The Dorchester on the other.

I fell in love with the Met’s spa products after receiving some samples in a goody bag a few years back. Their signature COMO Shambhala line was designed in-house at the COMO Shambhala Estate in Bali.

Gentle hints of geranium, lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, and other fresh scents make their Invigorate fragrance my favorite spa product in the world (and I’ve been to a lot of spas in the world).

So it’s lucky for me that just when I hit my first London-winter-blues moment of the season, The Met comes to my rescue with an invitation for a Como Shambhala massage.

Given their products are designed in Bali, I figure it’s as good a chance as any to pretend that I’m traveling to a tropical paradise.

The Massage Experience

I arrive at the hotel and make my way to the second floor, where a warm welcome awaits. Literally. The room is toasty, and the spa manager greets me with a calm smile and a cup of hot ginger tea.

I extract myself from the 81 layers of scarves, coats, hats, and gloves that envelop my shivering frame, wrap my fingers-cum-icicles around the cup, and start to breathe.

As I do, I inhale the signature scent of the lovely COMO Shambhala massage products. It starts to feel a lot like paradise.

Defrosted, I head into the small changing room and swap my sweater and boots for a robe and slippers.

I then make my way to a minimalist treatment room with Yasuko, my therapist, who’s been with COMO Hotels and Resorts for eight years.

As she walks me expertly through the different scents they have on offer, I know I’m in good hands.

And speaking of hands, for the next hour, she works her magic on my back, shoulders, arms, legs, and neck with hands that are well practiced in relieving stress, tension, and seemingly everything else that ails me.

The room gets a little chilly at one point, but she turns up the heat and we’re back in paradise.

The treatment itself is a signature Como Shambhala massage that uses long strokes from shoulder to ankle as well as elements like hot cloths to get the ever-tightening knots out of my shoulders.

It’s both relaxing and relieving, and I leave feeling light and pleasantly weightless.

I take a hot shower to prolong my winter warmth, then emerge back into the waiting area to be greeted by another cup of ginger tea and some dried fruit.

I browse the spa shop, with its pretty jewelry and delicious range of Como Shambhala products, then finally bring myself to accept the fact that if I don’t leave, they’ll eventually call security to escort me out of the hotel. And we wouldn’t want that.

Como Shambhala Massage in London and Beyond

I wrap my 81 layers back around my body, say my good-byes, and walk into the cold. Miraculously, my winter blues don’t flood in. My shoulders don’t tense up.

In fact, I feel relaxed and refreshed for the rest of the day, which doesn’t always happen after a massage. Maybe I need to make this a regular thing.

Or better yet, given COMO also has a hotel at Parrot Cay in Turks and Caicos, maybe I need to travel to the Caribbean to make sure the treatments there are up to par…
