Today’s an exciting day for me. I’m celebrating 13 years of living in London. I suppose it’s fitting to reach a traditionally unlucky number in a year the world’s turned upside down, but I’m still happy to have hit this milestone.

Living in London

People often ask me what living in London is like. A lot of my readers are aspiring Londoners and would love to call the UK capital home someday. Today I want to share some of the highlights of my time here.

I’ve written a lot about my experience of life in the UK capital over the years and all the ups and downs that have gone with it.

From the process of getting my first visa to the day I attended my British citizenship ceremony, I’ve documented my time living in London on the A Lady in London blog.

I’ve also covered personal things like feeling torn between two countries and experiencing reverse culture shock when I go home to California.

In between, I’ve shared my tips for American expats in London, my failures navigating the British tea culture and grocery shopping in London, and my expat holiday blunders. I’ve even written an expat Thanksgiving survival guide.

There are a lot more posts on the blog about what living in London has been like for me. From the day I arrived to events in more recent years, I’ve written it all down here.

If you want to dig deeper into what it’s like to live in London, you can use the search box to look for topics you’re interested in. It’s on the sidebar if you’re on desktop, and at the bottom if you’re on mobile.

From finding my first home in Hampstead to discovering the joys of Sunday roast and buying a flat in London (not to mention the trials of home ownership in London), you can discover it all on the blog.

I’ve even written about how I randomly won a modeling competition at Royal Ascot.

In the meantime, I’ll be busy making more memories and navigating a new normal in the UK and abroad. Here’s to the next 13 years of living in London and all the unexpected things they’ll bring!

  1. We were blessed to live in Surrey for 6 months while my husband worked as a consultant in England. My kids were then 1 1/2 and 3. We loved every minute of our adventures! Now, it is still our family’s favorite country to visit, and I constantly rely on your tours! Thank you from a California Family that still dreams of living again in London. Cheers to many more years and wonderful blogs to write!! Well done!
