Today I’m continuing my themed itinerary series with a London itinerary for tea lovers. If you love London tea shops, afternoon tea, and other aspects of the British tea culture, this is for you.

London Tea

This itinerary will take you to some of the best places for tea in London. From London tea shops to afternoon tea and tea-infused cocktails, you’ll experience a range of offerings in the UK capital.

The itinerary covers 2 mornings, afternoons, and evenings, but you can mix and match to tailor it to the length of time you’ll be in London. Make sure to check opening hours before you go and make advance bookings where relevant.

Afternoon Tea in London

London Tea: Day 1 – Morning

Begin the first day of your London tea itinerary in Covent Garden. Not only is this one of the most exciting parts of the city, but it’s also full of places to drink tea and buy some to take home.

If you want a special experience, head to Mariage Freres. This London tea shop is a temple to the Camellia sinensis plant and all the herbal infusions imaginable.

The upstairs area has a tearoom where you can enjoy a pot of one of their signature teas. If you haven’t had breakfast, they serve that as well (just brace yourself for the prices).

Speaking of which, Covent Garden has a lot more London tea shops you can browse. The covered piazza is home to a special branch of Whittard of Chelsea that has a tea bar. The shop itself is full of teas and wares to purchase as well.

Nearby, a family-run tea shop called The Tea House specializes in loose leaf teas. It’s a great place to pick up your favorite blend.

London Tea: Day 1 – Afternoon

After a busy morning exploring Covent Garden, make your way to the Embankment. Your London tea itinerary continues with afternoon tea at the Corinthia.

This hotel is a great place for afternoon tea in London, not least because the room is bright and airy and the food is as good as it looks (which isn’t always the case with these things).

Afternoon Tea at the Corinthia London

You can spend a leisurely afternoon here indulging in finger sandwiches, scones, and pastries as you sip your Earl Grey or English Breakfast. This is a quintessential British experience, so make sure to soak it all in.

London Tea: Day 1 – Evening

If you’re not stuck in food coma when afternoon tea is over, start your evening in Soho. This is one of the best places to go in London at night, what with all the bars and pubs in the area.

And given this is a London tea itinerary, the best of them is The Arts Theatre Club. This secret bar aims to bring the understated glamour of the Prohibition era to the streets of London.

One of the ways it does that is by serving British cocktails in charming vintage teacups and teapots. G & Tea, anyone?

London Tea: Day 2 – Morning

Start the second day of your London tea itinerary on the Strand. At 300 years old, the Twinings flagship store is the oldest tea shop in London.

It sells premium teas, gifts, blends, and other wares, and visitors can sample new flavors at the Loose Tea Bar.

Better yet, you can take a London tea masterclass with a Tea Ambassador. The classes allow guests to sample six different teas and find out more about their origins and the ins and outs of the British tea culture.

London Tea: Day 2 – Afternoon

When your masterclass is over, you’ll be ready to take on any tea menu in London. Which is why it’s a good idea to head to afternoon tea at Sketch.

This is one of the most atmospheric London tea experiences, not least because the room is all done in bold colors.

Yellow Room at Sketch London

As with the Corinthia, the food is as good as it looks at Sketch. There’s also the added bonus of poking around the other rooms while you’re here. And don’t miss the restrooms; they’re some of London’s best loos.

London Tea: Day 2 – Evening

If you still have energy after Sketch, finish your London tea itinerary with an evening of tea-infused cocktails at Gong Bar in The Shard.

This bar-with-a-view serves cocktails featuring Chai Tea Tepache and other inventive flavors. The bartenders take their craft seriously here, and the cocktails are both unique and delicious.

It’s a great place to indulge your inner tea lover and have a good night out at the same time.
