Dormy House Hotel and Spa Review

Driving through Burford brings back memories. My first trip to the Cotswolds took me through the picturesque town with its iconic yellow stone buildings and high street lined with pretty shops.

But I’m not stopping on this trip. I’m heading straight for my hotel, which is a first for me. Despite having been to the Cotswolds numerous times since I moved to London, I’ve never actually spent a night here.

I’m excited to change that. My accommodation, Dormy House Hotel and Spa, is rumored to be beautiful. Even more exciting, its new spa has just opened and I’m one of the first the hotel has invited to stay a night and experience it.

Dormy House is situated near the town of Broadway in Worcestershire, right in the heart of the Cotswolds.

I arrive at night and am welcomed by a roaring fire in a cozy lounge. Adjacent to it is a series of small rooms with sofas, tables, and chairs, one of which temps me to sit and have a glass of champagne.

Upstairs, my room has been decorated individually, as have all the others in the hotel. I have a little living room area with a sofa, table, and desk, as well as a bathroom with an inviting clawfoot tub and a separate shower.

The bedroom has a huge bed with pretty linens and an amazingly comfortable mattress.

But I’m not at Dormy House to sleep. I’m here to spa. And what a spa it is.

As someone who gets bored easily, my favorite spas are the ones with lots of different things to experience. The Dormy House spa is full of such things, including a lavender sauna and a salt infusion steam room.

There’s also a glass-enclosed juniper Finnish sauna, a huge indoor swimming pool, and an outdoor hot tub.

Beyond them are a private fitness room and a larger gym, and adjacent to the treatment rooms are a nail bar and a sunny spa restaurant.

I spend the morning indulging in the saunas and steam room, then float upstairs for a massage. The treatment is relaxing and the room deliciously warm, and by the time it’s done I feel amazing.

Lunch at the spa’s restaurant, The Greenhouse, is another bonus. The tender chicken and fresh salads make me feel as healthy as I am relaxed.

It beats the steak I had the night before at the hotel restaurant, which was a bit on the fatty side.

Dormy House Review

In the afternoon I have to head back to London, and I pass through Burford again on the way.

As much as I loved my first visit to the Cotswolds, I have to say that staying a night makes it a much more pleasant experience. Especially when there’s a spa involved.
