Happy Thanksgiving! As an expat, one of the most common questions I get asked on Thanksgiving is about the history of the holiday. I haven’t studied the subject in-depth since I was 7, so I’ve often struggled to articulate the story of Thanksgiving. But I’m going to remedy that with this post.
Today I’m excited to share my New Zealand trip video with you. I shot a lot of footage while I was traveling, and I’ve distilled it down to a 2-minute version of the highlights. I hope you enjoy it!
The most important thing I’ve learned on my travels is the necessity of being flexible. That lesson has paid off today, as I’m in Singapore and I’ve suddenly had to cancel my plans to travel from Brisbane to the Great Barrier Reef next week. My boyfriend has to fly back to London, and I’ve found myself with 9 days on my own before my flight home. I could go with him, but I can’t help wanting to stay in the Antipodes. I spend a few hours coming up with a plan, and the result is a 9-day itinerary for New Zealand without a car.
My favorite way to see a new place is with the locals. Their knowledge of secret spots and ability to add color to a destination make them the best travel guides. So now that my boyfriend and I are visiting his relatives in Queensland, I’m going on a 3-day Sunshine Coast itinerary in Australia with the experts. And I find 4 places to fall in love with.
