Today I want to bring you my guide to all things Holland Park. From Holland Park restaurants and cafes to the actual park itself, this London neighborhood has a lot going for it.

When I first moved to London, I was enamored with the big attractions. The Houses of Parliament, the British Museum, and Restaurant Gordon Ramsay topped my London bucket list.

But over the years I’ve discovered that some of the city’s best attractions are also its best-kept secrets.

In no neighborhood is this more apparent than Holland Park, where there are great Holland Park restaurants, pubs, cafes, and more.

Holland Park

Not far from Hyde Park, Holland Park and the west London area of the same name are packed with hidden gems.

A walk through the park reveals everything from the pretty Kyoto Garden to a giant chess set. Secluded sculptures and roving peacocks (yes, peacocks!) offer a surprise around every bend.

On a larger scale, there are sunny manicured gardens with fountains and murals, and mysterious wooded areas that feel almost haunted. And that’s to say nothing of the spring tulip gardens, which are spectacular.

There are fields for cows and fields for sports, meadows for picnics, and little ponds tucked away behind tall reeds. For an area a fraction of the size of Hyde Park, Holland Park packs a lot in.

Holland Park Restaurants, Pubs, and Cafes

And it’s not just the park, either. A few minutes north of the green space along Holland Park Avenueโ€”which becomes Notting Hill Gate just down the roadโ€”is a smattering of restaurants, pubs, and cafes.

A walk down the street reveals everything from fine-dining Flat Three restaurant to cozy tile-fronted pubs like The Castle.

Towards Notting Hill there are independent cafes and coffee shops. There’s also a branch of Daunt Books, one of my favorite independent bookshops in London.

On summer days, the outdoor space in front of The Mitre pub is packed with punters, and the terrace behind The Ladbroke Arms buzzes with sun worshippers.

Outside of the cafes and restaurants on Holland Park Avenue, the residential areas in this London neighborhood are full of beautiful buildings, many of them embassies, consulates, and high commissions.

More Holland Park Restaurants

And back in the park, there are a few more Holland Park restaurants. Not least the The Belvedere restaurant, a tucked-away fine-dining establishment set in the ballroom of a former mansion.

There’s also a sunny outdoor cafe near the rose garden and the Opera Holland Park stage (yes, the park even has opera!).

And let’s not forget the cafe in the Design Museum at the southern end of Holland Park. It’s a good place to stop for refreshments after seeing the exhibitions.

Best of Holland Park

In fact, there are so many Holland Park restaurants and other gems to discover that I’m sure I’ll be stumbling upon new ones for years to come. And that’s what makes the area one of London’s best attractions.

  1. Great article :). Holland Park is one of nu favorite London areas. Cool to see you included The Mitre, it’s a great place.

  2. I love that whole area! I’ve just realized that I’ve never actually parked myself in the park for an afternoon, but The Castle is great!

While this weather lasts I’m going to have to get over there a bit more frequently!

  3. This post tugs at my heart strings, especially when you mentioned The Mitre! I recently returned from living in London for a year and one of my best friends lived on Holland Park Avenue, steps away from The Mitre! We went there so often it felt like a second home ๐Ÿ™‚ Such a gorgeous area. Love this post!

  4. I have lived in London for a long time but I only recently discovered Holland Park and the area around it; who new there was a Japanese Garden in Central London? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. Ah, I love Holland Park! I’ve lived in London my whole adulthood and only got to know the area better through a whirlwind romance with a guy who lived there. The relationship ended but my love affair with Holland Park didn’t – I still wander over from my own West Kensington on a semi-regular basis, if for nothing else then to marvel in the beauty of the houses and to say hello to the peacocks in the park.

    Beautiful blog, beautiful pictures ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Thanks for sharing the information. Opera Holland Park is a great place to spend time and enjoy Opera. Although I am not a big fan of Opera but I love the place.
