Today I want to share my guide to where to find the best afternoon tea with a view in London with you. This famous tradition is enjoyable wherever you have it, but when it comes with a sweeping vista, it’s hard to beat. I’ve enjoyed a number of experiences with stunning panoramas of the city, and today I want to bring you my favorites. I’ve included a map, too.
Afternoon Tea with a View in London
Ever since the ritual of afternoon tea began with Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford, in the 19th century, it’s been a British institution. Hotels and restaurants vie for coveted awards for the best afternoon tea, and locals and visitors get to enjoy their efforts.
From traditional teas to themed services, a lot of creativity goes into creating both quintessential and quirky tea experiences.
When said experiences are coupled with a view, they’re even more exciting. There are a number of afternoon teas with views in London, from ones at the tops of famous skyscrapers to ones on the Thames. Read on for my top picks.
1. Shangri-La The Shard
First on my list of the best afternoon tea with a view in London is the one at Shangri-La The Shard. It takes place in Ting restaurant on the 35th floor, and it not only has creative seasonal twists, but also some of the best panoramas of London.
Afternoon tea at the iconic skyscraper in London Bridge isn’t just about the decorations and views, though. The offering comes with finger sandwiches, tasty scones, and pretty pastries. As if that’s not enough, there are rotating surprises like miniature chocolate replicas of The Shard.
Given The Shard is the tallest skyscraper in London and it’s near some of the most famous landmarks, the views at this afternoon tea are unparalleled. It’s worth walking all the way around the building to see the 360-degree vistas while you’re here. There are even views from the loos.
2. Duck & Waffle
Another of my top picks for afternoon tea with a view is Duck & Waffle. This famous restaurant on the 40th floor of 110 Bishopsgate is right by Liverpool Street station, and it’s worth a special trip.
Sky-High Afternoon Tea at Duck & Waffle not only features all the traditional sandwiches, scones, pastries, and tea (not to mention champagne and cocktails), but also themed accents. The tiered tray comes covered in a giant hand-painted duck egg, and there are some signature surprises included.
As far as the view goes, it’s a stunner. The restaurant’s location means there are great views of the City of London and the East End. It’s worth a special trip to take them in.

3. Marriott County Hall
Another of my favorite afternoon teas in London with a view is the one in The Library at the Marriott County Hall on the South Bank. This hotel is housed in a stunning heritage building right on the Thames.
Not only does The Library offer unparalleled views of Big Ben, but also classic atmosphere. The wood-paneled room on the ground floor is a great place to enjoy a traditional tea service as you take in the boats on the river.
The Marriott County Hall also does a festive Christmas afternoon tea (as does the Shangri-La). It’s a fun way to get into the seasonal spirit and enjoy some of the best views of London at the same time.
