Today I want to share my review of maze Grill Royal Hospital Road with you. This Gordon Ramsay restaurant in London’s Chelsea is a great place to eat in the UK capital.
maze Grill Royal Hospital Road
Gordon Ramsay is everywhere these days. It seems like whenever I step outside, I come across a new restaurant of his. This is particularly true in Chelsea, where he has two restaurants of the same name.
maze Grill Royal Hospital Road is one of them, and since they seem ubiquitous now—there’s one in Mayfair, too—I’ve come to see what it’s all about.
maze Grill
maze Grill is Ramsay’s Manhattan-style steak house, complete with a selection of USDA beef and American favorites like onion rings and mac and cheese.
Given I’m heading to New York in a couple weeks, it seemed fitting that I accept the restaurant’s invitation to come in for a review.
The location in the former Foxtrot Oscar space is right by the celebrity chef’s eponymous three-Michelin-starred Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London.

The Dining Room
I walk through the door of maze Grill Royal Hospital Road to discover a narrow dining room with a bar taking up most of one side and a red leather banquette filling out the other.
The space feels a bit cramped, as does the downstairs dining area, but the flood of light coming in from the front windows goes some way to lending it breathing room.
maze Grill Royal Hospital Road Menu
I sit down for dinner with a group of food bloggers and look over maze Grill’s menu. In addition to a mix of British and American starters—tuna deviled eggs sit side-by-side with English asparagus—there’s a selection of sushi and sashimi.
I start with a bit of everything, particularly enjoying the smashed avocados with sweet potato chips and California rolls topped with snow crab.
The service at maze Grill Royal Hospital Road is friendly and attentive, and the wine Washingtonian, which makes my inner American happy.
The main course comes as a mix of American beef and the Japanese Wagyu triple seared filet. They taste vastly different, but equally good. I’m picky about my steak, and both pack a lot of flavor and tenderness into every bite.
Less impressive are the sauces, which can be a bit thin and runny—the peppercorn sauce in particular.
Thankfully the sinfully rich mac and cheese makes up for it with an abundance of creaminess and just the right amount of crunch on top.
The highlight of the dessert menu is the monkey bread, a giant cinnamon roll that’s divinely moist and flavorful. It nearly has everyone at the table fighting over the last bite.
maze Grill Royal Hospital Road: The Verdict
But we remain civilized. This is Chelsea, after all, and even if Gordon Ramsay has a penchant for swearing and swaggering, it wouldn’t be right for us to follow suit in his restaurant.
Besides, we all kind of like each other. And the restaurant.
While the layout of the dining area isn’t my favorite, the food is worth a trip. Perhaps its sister maze Grill restaurant on Park Walk has a few more tables to my liking. I might just have to go and eat more steak to find out.

Someone recently recommended that I should go to (the other) maze Grill, so I’m now dying to try any of them. The food looks absolutely delicious. Definitely want to have that monkey bread for dessert!
Yeah, you’ll love it!
Ooo I love Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants! I’ve visited the original Maze Grill but didn’t know he’d opened more of them so think I need to take a trip to Chelsea 🙂 The sushi looks phenomenal and those tuna devilled eggs sound… interesting? The monkey bread looks a little dry for my liking but if it’s as good as you describe I’m sure I’d love it! Lots of love, Andrea xxx
Yeah, you’ll definitely have to go and try it out!
Not ashamed to admit that I enjoy watching Gordon Ramsey in Hell’s Kitchen. Would love to dine at one of his restaurants!
That’s great!
