Where to See Heather in Scotland

Heather is fleeting. It blooms for a few weeks every August, then fades away as autumn sets in. I’ve seen it in the Lammermuir Hills in the Scottish Borders, particularly around The Southern Upland Way. It covers moorland throughout Scotland and northern England, too. If you get a chance, I recommend seeing the heather in Scotland up close. I’ve never experienced anything like it in all my travels, and I’m sure you’ll be as enchanted by it as I am. These 11 photos will show you why…

  2. Oh wow, that looks amazing! Didn’t even know this existed in the UK 🙂 Definitely need to see more of Scotland! Hope you’re settling in well, with this nature around you, I’m sure you are!

  3. Beautiful photos, thank you for sharing. I live on the Isle of Skye and our heather is just fading, it blooms a bit later this further north and west to the Borders. We’ve had some amazing different shades of purple this year which I have gathered and dried to enjoy throughout the winter.

  4. A fellow Californian..thank you for the pics! My husband and I are planning a visit to Scotland this year, and the primary reason is to see the heather!! So thank you?
