There’s nothing like a press-for-champagne button to get me excited about a night out in London. While said buttons can be found at a few restaurants around the city, the ones at Bob Bob Ricard in London’s Soho have always been my favorites.
Bob Bob Ricard in London
The restaurant has invited me and three friends to enjoy dinner and drinks on the house, and we settle into a comfy, low-lit booth ready for bubbles and food.
The room itself evokes the golden age of travel, and its ambiance offers a blend of clubby London and traditional Russian. It’s busy, but it works.
Dinner at Bob Bob Ricard in London
As we look over the menu at Bob Bob Ricard in London, our server brings us an amuse bouche of herring and beetroot with shots of vodka in little cut crystal glasses.
I don’t normally like herring, but this is delicious. It’s a great start to the evening.
We can’t resist pressing the champagne button next, and soon more crystal glasses fill with fizz. As they do, a round of starters appears on the table.
Everything from baked oysters Brezhnev to Russian vareniki dumplings tempts our taste buds. The dumplings are a bit doughy, but the beetroot and goat’s cheese salad and salmon tartare are excellent.
For the mains, we decide to pair champagne with Bob Bob Ricard’s classic comfort food. Steaming bowls of lobster mac and cheese and giant lobster burgers arrive just as the evening entertainment heats up.
A performer comes onto a little sunken dance floor between the booths and does some amazing tricks with hula hoops as the lights flash red and purple.
She comes out again as we eat dessert—a creative Eton Mess in a pink pearl shell—and wows our eyes as the food does the same for our mouths.
Bob Bob Ricard: The Verdict
At the end of the evening, we emerge from Bob Bob Ricard in London entertained and sated.
The only other thing I could want is to have a champagne button installed in my flat. Then again, that might mean I never travel again…
