Lady’s Guide to a Day at Newbury Racecourse in England

Today I want to share about what it’s like to go to the races at Newbury Racecourse in England. This racetrack in Berkshire is one of the UK’s leading horse racing venues, and it makes for a fun day out.

I haven’t been to the races since Royal Ascot in June. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long.

But recently my wine merchant extended an invitation to me and a friend to join them for a day at the races in Newbury. It was a racecourse I hadn’t been to before. I couldn’t say no.

I arrived at Newbury Racecourse a bit early in order to stake out the grounds and enjoy a glass of champagne. There were few people around when I got there, so I felt like I had the entire place to myself. Well, me and the private planes.

The horse races started at 1:30pm. Knowing my terrible luck at betting, I let my friend do the wagering. I just enjoyed the races, which were visible from our box.

The afternoon was lovely, not least because of the hospitality suite we were in for the day. This being an event sponsored by a wine merchant, the wine and champagne were flowing all afternoon.

By the third race I was in need of some food. This was provided in the form of a two-sausage sandwich from one of the many food vendors at Newbury Racecourse. It was enormous. And delicious.

But it wasn’t just the food I found entertaining. No, even the races were exciting. My friend won big on one of them, which provided us both with a good feeling for the remainder of the day.

After the races were over, we left Newbury Racecourse and headed back to London on the train.

It was nice to have experienced another of England’s racecourses. After the great experiences I’ve had at Ascot and Cheltenham Racecourse, I can’t wait to explore more of them.
