Today I want to bring you A Lady in London’s guide to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. This annual extravaganza features everything from an ice skating rink to carnival rides and Christmas markets. It’s a great place to get into the seasonal spirit in London.

Winter Wonderland

I haven’t gotten into the holiday spirit this year. I went without an advent calendar, I haven’t listened to much holiday music, and I was too lazy to get a Christmas tree.

In order to bring some holiday cheer into my pre-Christmas life, yesterday I went with a friend to Winter Wonderland in London.

The goal of visiting this annual Christmas market and carnival in Hyde Park was to have some holiday fun and get into the Yuletide spirit.

Winter Wonderland Christmas Markets

My friend had been to Winter Wonderland the night before, so she gave me a tour of the highlights. As we walked through the park, I couldn’t believe how big the Christmas markets were.

As far the eye could see there were wooden chalets selling mulled wine, hot chocolate, pretzels, bratwurst, candy, and every other food one could possibly dream of.

There were also wooden chalets selling handicrafts, toys, and other holiday gifts. It was my own personal Christmas miracle.

Winter Wonderland Carnival

After the Christmas markets came the ice skating rink, and after the ice skating rink came the Winter Wonderland carnival.

There was every kind of carnival ride imaginable, including a Ferris wheel, a haunted house, a merry-go-round, a teacup ride, and no less than three roller-coasters.

More Christmas Markets

Looping back to the entrance, we picked up some surprisingly good hot chocolate and met up with another friend for a second circuit around Winter Wonderland.

This time we stopped in the middle of the market, where there was a mini Christmas market within the larger Christmas market.

There was a band playing oompah music, vendors selling bratwurst and gluhwein, and everywhere there were wooden chalets, wooden floorboards, and wooden bandstands.

We finished up our second loop through Winter Wonderland feeling good but thoroughly frozen. As we left the market and carnival festivities behind, I couldn’t help but bring some holiday cheer with me.

And with a fresh batch of snow falling overnight and carolers singing in Hampstead this afternoon, I’m getting in the holiday spirit more and more each day.
