Today I want to share my guide to experiencing the Ascot Authority Box at Ascot Racecourse. My year as the Face of Ascot is quickly approaching its end. Last Saturday I made one final trip out to the racecourse before Royal Ascot in June.
Ascot Authority Box
I arrived at Ascot just before noon with my boyfriend and two of our friends. The PR team was kind enough to invite us to lunch in the Ascot Authority Box, so my friends headed up the escalators while I met up with a press team from the BBC at the wine tasting room on the ground level.
The BBC team filmed a short clip about the new Ascot cocktail, Royal Blush, then we all headed down to the Parade Ring.
Gathering under a tree, the cameraman filmed a quick interview with me and the BBC correspondent.
I was asked about my year as the Face of Ascot and what advice I had for candidates for this year’s model search.
Interview finished, I headed up to the Ascot Authority Box. The room was abuzz with owners, Ascot staff, and my friends.
As I sipped one of my first Pimm’s and Lemonade’s of the season, I had a good time catching up with some of the people from Ascot that I hadn’t seen in a while and meeting some new faces as well.
Lunch, a full three course affair, was followed by the races. We all filed down to the Parade Ring to watch the horses circle around, then headed back up to the box to watch them run.
We repeated this process several more times, making a number of unsuccessful bets along the way.
After a while we got distracted by the multi-tiered plates full of tea sandwiches and cakes, and sat back down at our table to indulge.
My pot of Earl Grey came with its own timer for perfect steeping, and the three chocolate cakes, myriad finger sandwiches, and innumerable pastries I enjoyed were delicious.
After the races, there was a band playing on the ground floor. The PR team arranged for the lead singer to dedicate a song to me, so we watched them play for a while and I went up to smile and wave when my turn came.
Towards the end of the band’s set the crowd found its dancing feet and my boyfriend and I amused ourselves watching all of the couples dancing across the floor.
We left the racecourse around 5pm to drive back to London. It was sad to leave after such a great day at the races, but I’m excited to go back next month for the final days of my year as the Face of Ascot.
