Today I want to share my Shake Shack London review with you. The beloved New York restaurant group is taking the city by storm, and there’s seemingly one on every corner now. This review is of Shake Shack Covent Garden, but there are more throughout the UK capital.

Shake Shack London Review

This morning I headed over to get a special look at the Shake Shack London Covent Garden space and try some of the food from the menu.

Set right in the historic Covent Garden market building, it’s as centrally located as restaurants get in London.

I sat outside in one of the two large seating areas under the glass atrium and caught up with Mark Rosati, Shake Shack’s culinary director. As I did, I sampled some of the menu items specially designed for Shake Shack London.

Shake Shack Burgers

First up were the burgers. The classic ShackBurger, which I have eaten many a time at the New York Shake Shack, was made with Scottish grass-fed Aberdeen Angus, and was as good as ever.

The SmokeShack had the same beef, but also came with double smoked bacon. Mmmmm…bacon.

Shake Shack Hot Dogs

Next up were Shake Shack London’s hot dogs. Again I started with a classic, this one the Shack-cago Dog made with meat from a European sausage maker.

Like the ShackBurger, the hot dog stayed true to its American roots while giving a nod to its overseas location.

The next hot dog was a brand new menu item created just for Shake Shack London. The ShackMeister Sausage featured a Cumberland sausage, cheese, and fried ShackMeister ale-soaked shallots.

It had a great blend of flavors, and was definitely a winner. I’m sure I’ll be back to eat another soon.

Shake Shack Desserts

For dessert at Shake Shack London, Mark walked me through three of the concretes on offer. They’re made of dense, creamy frozen custard blended at high speed with mix-ins.

My favorite was the Union Shack, which was full of Paul A Young chocolate and sea salt chocolate brownies from local St John Bakery. Again, it was nice to see a blend of classic American concepts and local British ingredients.

Shake Shack London: The Verdict

And maybe that’s what I liked best about this Shake Shack restaurant. Like me, it’s an American in London doing its best to retain its identity while adopting its local culture.

And what better way to celebrate my country than with a classic burger or hot dog? Now that I’ve eaten at one Shake Shack London location, I can’t wait to visit more.

If you do the same, I hope you enjoy tasting your way through the menu as much as I have.

  1. Wow, this looks really yummy. I’d seen that they were opening in Covent Garden, but have never tried their food in the US so it’s completely new to me. Looking forward to trying this ‘American in London’ soon.

  2. I went to NYC with some friend in MAY 2012.. We stayed close to a Shake Shack near times square. It was always super full and there were queues every time so we didn’t have enough time to visit it.

This new opening warms my heart and I literally cannot wait to try it.
I fell in love with NYC! Can’t wait to go back but I guess we can ‘Shake-Shack-it’ for now haha

  3. I can’t eat burgers (how un-american of me) but I love a good hot dog with tons of different toppings. Those look delicious! The shackmeister actually looks like the most perfect hot dog/sausage ever made!
