The annual Chelsea Flower Show starts tomorrow in London. Kicking off the English summer season, the show features everything from designer gardens to prize-winning flowers, with gardening shops and plenty of Pimm’s to go around. This morning I went down to the Royal Hospital in Chelsea to get a sneak peek at the show and bring you a Chelsea Flower Show preview.
Chelsea Flower Show Preview
This year is no different from previous ones in terms of the care and attention to detail the Chelsea Flower Show displays.
Every show garden mixes elements of color and landscape design to bring alive various themes and concepts, some incorporating architectural elements, sculptural accents, and water features.
Inside the large tent at the center of the Chelsea Flower Show, floral displays range from award-winning begonias and daffodils to colorful extravaganzas like the Thai Embassy’s tropical garden.
Around the perimeter and through the main corridor of the Chelsea Flower Show are stalls showcasing the latest in garden technology, patio furniture, bird baths, gnomes, and everything else one could possibly imagine installing in a garden.
But the main event is the show gardens themselves, all of which have been painstakingly designed to be both aesthetically pleasing and unique in their layout and style.
I could have spent all day wandering through them and discovering their hidden details. Seeing them was a highlight of my Chelsea Flower Show preview.
The show is sold out this year, as it is every year. If you don’t have tickets or can’t get to London to see it, I hope you enjoy the show through the photos here on the A Lady in London blog.
If nothing else, the Chelsea Flower Show signals the beginning of the English summer season, and if today’s sunny weather is any indication, it’s going to be a good one.

Lovely pictures. It must have been quite a treat to discover it before all the crowds. My parents are coming from France to go. I booked their tickets months ago and am so pleased they got in.

Lovely pics. I’ve been wanting to go to Chelsea for years, haven’t made it, yet. Looks like the sneak preview is the best way to enjoy it.

This is my first summer living in London, so I truly enjoyed reading this. I had no idea the event sold out, so it looks like I’ll have to put it on my list for next year! Hopefully the weather will be just as gorgeous and sunny as it is now 🙂
