Yesterday I took a day trip to Oxford University to visit a friend who’s studying there. It was my second trip to Oxford to see her (the last one being in the middle of a terrible snowstorm when we were studying abroad), so we had time to enjoy the city without feeling pressured to see and do everything.
Day Trip to Oxford University
I took the train from London to Oxford, and my friend picked me up from the station and took me on a ‘private’ guided tour of Brasenose College.
Even with all the historic architecture in London, I couldn’t help but be amazed at how beautiful the Oxford University buildings were.
We walked through the courtyard of the college, peeked into the library, and interrupted some sort of luncheon in the dining hall before heading over to one of Oxford‘s busy pedestrianized streets for a leisurely lunch.
After lunch my day trip to Oxford University continued as we had tea in my friend’s residence hall and went for a walk through a nearby park. The air was chilly, but a cluster of friendly daffodils gave us hope for warmer weather to come.
We wandered from the park to The Eagle and Child pub (referred to by locals as the Bird and Baby or the Fowl and Fetus).
We then spent a while looking through Greek statuary, Egyptian amulets, and European paintings at The Ashmolean, an art and archeology museum in Oxford.
In the late afternoon we escaped the cold by doing a little shopping and having more tea. My day trip to Oxford University ended when I headed back to London at 6:30pm.
I wish I could have stayed longer, but it’s nice to know that taking a day trip from London to Oxford is easy. I’m sure I’ll be back again soon.
