I’ve been living out of a suitcase for almost two weeks now, and I’m itching to find a place to live. Flat hunting in London started out on a discouraging note; every time I saw a place that I liked online, the agent on the phone would tell me that it had “just gone.”
Flat Hunting in London
After a few days of that I finally found someone who was willing to show me a flat in Hampstead, so I trekked up there this afternoon and looked at it. Not bad. Not great either.
I walked up to the Hampstead village area afterward and walked into a random real estate agency to tell them I was looking for a flat. I was in luck.
They had received a new listing that afternoon that hadn’t even gone on their books yet. An agent took me to look at it, and I tentatively fell in love.
The flat is a two-minute walk from the tube station right in the heart of Hampstead village. It’s newly-refurbished and has its own private garden.
I’m hesitantly excited about the prospect of getting it, but am in an agonizing state of limbo. Flat hunting in London is not for the faint of heart.
In more exiting news, I went to a great Halloween party last night. It was my first big outing since coming to London, and the city certainly lived up to its reputation.
My boyfriend and I were invited to a pre-party at one of his friends’ flats in Knightsbridge. From there we went to a club in Mayfair. We met a lot of people there, including a girl that went to my high school (small world!).
I’ve also had time to explore a little bit of London when I’m not flat hunting, including some fun neighborhoods (Islington, South Kensington, Clapham) and museums.
The other day I went to see the Zaha Hadid exhibition at the Design Museum. I read about it over the summer and couldn’t wait to get here and see it.
It’s so great to live in a city that has so many art and cultural exhibitions, and it hasn’t hurt that the weather in London has been beautiful.
Now all I need is for my flat hunting in London to come to an end and I’ll be all set to explore more of the city. Fingers crossed!
