Today is the seven-year anniversary of the day I moved to London. I’ve been living in London for seven years, and for once I’m actually in town to celebrate!

Living in London for Seven Years

This has been a big year, what with getting British citizenship in February and a British passport in July. Those were the final steps in my long UK immigration process, and I still feel relieved to have it all done with.

So now that I’m a British citizen and maroon passport holder, what is there left to tick off my American expat checklist? A lot, actually.

There are still a million places I want to visit in London and the rest of the UK, and there’s a lot more to learn about British culture—even after living in London for seven years I come across words and customs that are new to me.

And to be honest, I like it that way. One of the best things about living in London is that every day brings new surprises, and the day of my seven-year anniversary is just as exciting as the day I moved to the UK.

  9. Happy Anniversary! I’m so homesick right now, ready to plan another trip back to the UK in the Spring. Always visit London because I lived there 30 years ago before moving to Canada and I still love it. It never gets old. I’m chuffed you’re enjoying your life in my old neck of the woods!

  11. Congratulations! You know you’ve found a great city when you’ve lived there for seven years and you’re just as excited to be there as the day you arrived. Not many cities can do that. London is remarkable, indeed.

  15. Congratulations, that’s such an exciting milestone! I used to dream about moving to London when I was younger, but had no idea how to make it happen. If only you’d been around then! I imagine you are inspiring a whole new generation of girls 🙂
