Lady at a Vintage Weekend in Cornwall

After 15 unseasonably hot days of traveling in the Balkans, I expected to return to bitter cold weather in London. But when I arrived at Gatwick Airport, I was greeted by such warmth that I wondered whether my flight had been rerouted to the tropics. As it happened, the UK was experiencing a heat wave. It made me all the more glad that I would be traveling to Cornwall over the weekend.

Lady Bakes Bread in Cornwall

I didn’t think I would ever travel to Cornwall in the winter. My last visit took place in the warmth of summer, and my inner sun worshiper figured that if I ever returned, it would be at a similar time of year. But I was only thinking in terms of outdoor pursuits. It never occurred to me that there could be just as much to do indoors no matter what the weather.

Lady in Cornwall

Having spent so much time overseas in the past month, my boyfriend and I decided to take it easy in the UK last weekend. No, we didn’t stay home. We headed to Cornwall for two days of seaside relaxation in England’s southwest.

After a frightening incident in which our driver fell asleep at the wheel on the way to the airport, we arrived in Newquay just as the sun was coming up. Not wasting any time, we headed straight for the Eden Project, Cornwall’s impressive sustainable garden initiative.
