The last stop on my round-the-world trip was Tokyo, Japan. As the title of this post implies, it was a bit difficult to bridge the language gap there. Not many signs were posted in English and few people spoke my native tongue, but my boyfriend and I didn’t let that stop us from enjoying our time there.

My round-the-world trip took an unexpected detour in Hong Kong two days ago. Our flight from Auckland was delayed for an hour and a half, and upon arrival in Hong Kong we found ourselves marooned in the former British territory with no flight to Tokyo until the following morning. Cathay put us up in a hotel inside the airport, and we started making lemonade from this handful of layover lemons.

As part of my round-the-world trip, I arrived in New Zealand on January 2. My boyfriend and I drove straight from Auckland to the Coromandel Peninsula. The scenery was spectacular. We saw beautiful coastline, rolling hills, farmland, and lots of small towns along the way. We even got chased down a hill by a gigantic sheep!

The Australia portion of my round-the-world trip went by far too quickly. The overcast skies in the land down under cleared up after Christmas day and the weather was beautiful for the rest of our time in Sydney.

We spent time at Bondi Beach and Freshwater Beach; strolled through the botanical gardens, carefully avoiding the thousands of creepy bats in the trees; sipped cocktails by the Opera House, Darling Harbor, and chic downtown bars; ate yummy brunches in Surrey Hills, Darlinghurst, and The Rocks; visited the Art Gallery of NSW; walked around Wooloomooloo; went wine tasting for a day in the Hunter Valley and saw some kangaroos and a turtle in the wild; hiked around Watsons Bay and the eastern beaches; surveyed sketchy King’s Cross; and soaked up the sun in Hyde Park.

My round-the-world trip started on Friday morning when my boyfriend and I took the Eurostar to Paris for the weekend. We got upgraded to an amazing suite at the Prince de Galles hotel and had a great time exploring Christmas markets and farmers’ markets, spending time with a friend of mine, and eating great food.
