Lady is Going to Scotland
A month ago I wrote that I had an exciting announcement to make soon. Today is the day. I am happy to say that I am going to spend New Year’s Eve in Edinburgh and then travel through Scotland for a week and a half!
My trip to Edinburgh will start with the annual Hogmanay festival, a multi-day New Year’s Eve extravaganza that involves torchlight processions, street parties, dancing, concerts, and fireworks over the castle.
I will attend Hogmanay with a group of other travel bloggers. During the festivities you can follow us on Twitter and other social media platforms using the hashtag #blogmanay. You can also check A Lady in London and the Blogmanay website for photos, stories, and updates.
From Hogmanay, I will head north to Glencoe, where parts of the new James Bond movie Skyfall were filmed. I will also go to the Isle of Skye, one of the most beautiful islands off the coast of Scotland. I will even hit up Loch Ness to visit the lake’s most famous inhabitant!
I will then travel south again to St Andrews, a beautiful university town, and Gleneagles of golfing fame.
I cannot wait to travel in Scotland, and would love to hear your recommendations if you have been to any of the places I’m going to visit!

How exciting!! Where are you staying on Skye? We loved the Kinloch Lodge. Awesome spot and amazing food in a quaint dining room.
Thanks Pam! I’m not sure yet where I’m staying on Skye, but I will keep an eye out for the Kinloch Lodge. It sounds great!
How wonderful! Enjoy Blogmanay…wish I could go.
Scotland is one of my all time favorite places.
Balmoral is one of the most enchanting castles
of all time. Enjoy and happy new year!
Thanks Charu!
Isle of Skye is incredible. The Old Man of Storr requires a couple of hours of hiking, but its worth it! The Cuillin mountains, also on IoS, are spectacular! I suppose Loch Ness must be done, but don’t miss the Uruqhart castle. Very pretty
Thanks! Those are great tips!
Take a ride out on the loch when you get to Inverness! The view of Urquhardt Castle is amazing from the water. Note Alistair Crowly’s home on the west side of the loch, high on the brae. It’s said Jimmy Page bought the house, stayed one night and was too frightened to go back–a good subject for your blog if you can find someone who can verify. Enjoy the festival. You’ll not find another one like it in all the world.
Sorry–that’s Crowley, not Crowly’s.
Thanks for the tips, Jennifer!
What a fantastic itinerary. Skye is wonderful; the main town, Portree, has some nice shops and cafés. Dunvegan Castle is worth a visit and The Three Chimneys and Old Schoolhouse restaurants are good choices for fine dining. If you’re at all interested in whisky, the Talisker distillery is a must-do, the small group ‘connoisseur’ tour is one of the best I’ve been on.
Eilean Donan castle is on the way to Skye–it’s probably the most photographed castle in Scotland.
Have a wonderful time!
Thanks for the tips, Rachel!
