Lady Gives Away Open Garden Squares Weekend Tickets

Summer has arrived in London. It’s a good thing, too, because winter lasted well into May and Londoners were growing weary of complaining about the incessant cold. Now that we’ve moved on to moaning about the sweltering heat, we’re all in a better mood. And with better weather and better moods come the exciting outdoor pursuits of summer. One of these is the famous London Open Garden Squares Weekend. Today I’m happy to announce that I will be giving away two pairs of tickets for the event, which takes place next weekend.

If you don’t know about Open Garden Squares Weekend, it is the only weekend of the year when private gardens across the city are open to the public. Secluded squares, manicured hotel gardens, and pretty green spaces around London open their gates and welcome visitors with music, food, and festivities. It makes for a great day out, especially when the weather is as nice as it has been recently.

I went to London Open Garden Squares Weekend two years ago and had a great time exploring the gardens of Belgravia. You can read about it here. I would go again this year, but I will be traveling to California for a wedding in Sonoma (tough life, I know…).

Now that I have (hopefully) convinced you that you need to go, here’s what you can do to win one of the two pairs of Open Garden Squares tickets:

Leave a comment on this post that includes a description of your favorite garden, park, or green space. It can be anywhere in the world, so feel free to be creative!

The two entrants with the most entertaining entries will each receive a pair of tickets to London Open Garden Squares Weekend, which takes place from June 9 – 10, 2012. I will choose the winners this Friday and notify them that day. If the tickets aren’t claimed with 24 hours, I will give them away to another entrant. Good luck and enjoy the sunshine!

  1. Oh, I love London Open Garden Squares weekend. I used to work at Goodenough College in Mecklenburgh Square. They always opened up their quad and garden for this. Such a lovely spot.

  2. Andi says:

I can’t participate since I’m not based in London, but what a fab giveaway!

Toss up! Earlscliffe (a now closed to the public) garden in Howth, Dublin (http://www.earlscliffe.com/) or the Fred Mitchell Memorial Park in my home town of Saskatoon. It’s not much bigger than a lot of land would be for a house but it’s beautiful and reminds me of warm summer nights.

  4. Loni says:

My favorite is Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. With varying topographies, this park offers a range of outdoor and cultural experiences. From the Chinese Tea Room, to the Dutch Windmill, and the seemingly random herd of Buffalo, there isn’t a spot in the park that wouldn’t impress you!

  5. Irene says:

El Retiro in Madrid. Being able to completely lose sight of buildings at traffics while remaining in the very center of the city is priceless! BEautiful ponds, breathtaking trees and lovely atmosphere created by musicians, jogglers and performers

  6. Marcia says:

I love Hyde Park, Regent’s Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens because they provide so much needed green space in London, have lots of beautiful areas, host great events and have fantastic playgrounds to keep children and parents happy!

Hey :) first of all I have to say that your blog is really interesting and as a new London visitor has helped me to discover new places, like this weekend event that I didnt know!

I am a student coming from Spain, from Vitoria in the Basque country. Last year we won the award of Green Capital City, as the city has plently of parks and green areas. My favorite one is La Florida, a big green spot located in the center of the city and which is the more livable place in all the area. In summer, the elders go to the kiosk and dance to the music that can be heard from very far and that really cheers you up. In automn a mistic atmosphere is created by the colours of the trees, brownish, yelowish, and is perfect for a romantic walk. In winter everything is covered by the snow – as we are in a very cold place – and becomes an charmed place to go. It is a really amazing place – and an amazing city – not very known but that I think that everyone should go (at least once :) )
