Lady at Franco’s

With the Royal Wedding just a month away, London has Will and Kate fever. All over the city there are Royal Wedding tours, everywhere the markets and souvenir shops are full of Royal Wedding plates and dishes, and everyone is getting into the spirit of the occasion.

Lady at the Boat Race

Every spring the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race takes place along the Thames in London. The race dates back to 1829, when the first boats from the rival universities took to the water to start an annual tradition.

Lady in Dresden

The New York Times is stalking me. It must be. At least the travel section, anyway. Why else would it always publish an article or a “top places to visit this year” list featuring a place to which I just booked a trip? First it happened with Namibia. Then Sri Lanka. Then Santiago. And finally Dresden.

Lady in Prague

It has been eight years since I studied in Prague. Eight years since I lived in New Town, since I attended classes in art history, international relations, economics, and Czech language. Eight years since I did four months of Prague sightseeing, since I got on a train to Munich and left the city behind.

Lady and the Duke of Hamilton Pub

A few months ago I engaged in my first ever stint of community activism. It wasn’t to ban a power plant from being built next to a school. I wasn’t to fight a corrupt city council. No, it was to save my local pub, the Duke of Hamilton. Back in the States I might have been a bit embarrassed that my first brush with activism was alcohol related, but in the UK, where binge drinking is a national pastime, I felt a small sense of pride.

Lady at Bonds

A few days before I got back from Chile, I got word that the weather in London had warmed up a bit. Having enjoyed the spectacularly hot summer sun in South America, I looked forward to returning to a not-so-freezing winter in London.

Lady in Dallas

Dallas has a car culture. On my first visit to the city, I refused to give into it, opting instead for public transport. I had a good time on my self-guided Dallas sightseeing tour, but it didn’t take me long to realize that the city was spread out enough that having a car would have been helpful.

Lady in Santiago

My Santiago sightseeing took place piecemeal while I was traveling in Chile. First there was my amazing day of wine tasting in the Maipo Valley, then came my evening of exploring bits and pieces of the Santiago restaurant scene after a day in Valparaiso. But it was only on my last day in Chile that I had the opportunity to spend a significant amount of time exploring the city center.

Lady in Patagonia

There’s something different about Patagonia. Way down at the end of the Earth, the region at first seems similar to other places in the world. But upon closer inspection, it reveals its own unique character that distinguishes it from anywhere else.

Lady on Easter Island

Easter Island has always intrigued me. The tiny triangle of land is isolated in the deep blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, but its mysterious history and unique moai statues make it famous throughout the world. I couldn’t take a trip to Chile without visiting.
