Lady of Oysters and Beer
Last weekend I went on two great day trips from San Francisco. One trip focused on oysters, the other on beer. I have a pretty great life these days.
On Saturday I went to the Hog Island Oyster Company’s oyster farm on Tomales Bay. The place is pretty rustic; they provide picnic tables, grills, oysters, and shucking tools and you bring the rest.
Seven of us headed up to Hog Island on Saturday afternoon and spent the day feasting on oysters and gourmet picnic food. I learned how to shuck oysters, but had more fun just eating them! We first ate them raw, then moved on to steamed and BBQ’d, and at the end the guys got creative and made BBQ oysters with Point Reyes Blue Cheese and grilled pineapple.
One of the best parts of the day was the views of Tomales Bay from the picnic area. The area is really senic and we had amazing weather for late September.
On Sunday I took a day trip from San Francisco to Muir Woods for a hike with the Spinsters of San Francisco. Fourteen of us drove up to the park with the goal of doing a nice hike and having a few beers at the secretive Tourist Club.
We were told that the Tourist Club would be hard to find, but the trail we were on literally ran into it. We arrived just before it opened at 2pm and by 2:30 the place was packed. We had beer, played scrabble, talked, and soaked up the beautiful late-September sunshine.
