Lady in Hollywood (Maryland, that is)

I’ve been running around like crazy this week trying to get everything packed for London, but I want to do a quick post about my trip to Maryland and DC last weekend.

My boyfriend and I headed to DC on Thursday for his 10 year high school reunion in Hollywood, Maryland. We stayed in DC on Thursday night and met up with some of his college buddies at a sports bar in Bethesda. I had a great time listening to stories about all the crazy things they did in college.

On Friday we headed down to La Plata, where his parents live. He took me to a great BBQ place called Johnny Boy’s Ribs for lunch, and after a good dinner with his parents we met up with some of his high school friends and heard more good stories.

On Saturday we drove down to Solomons Island in southern Maryland and went to an old plantation in Hollywood for the reunion. We ate more good BBQ and mingled with his old classmates and then we all ended up at a bar called Tiki Bar. After drinking a ridiculously strong “mai tai” that looked and tasted more like Hawaiian Punch than anything else, I ate the best ham sandwich ever from yet another BBQ place and then we headed home.

On Sunday we drove back to DC and went to the Zoo for a few minutes to see the Red Panda (my favorite animal!). It was hiding somewhere, but we did get to see the Giant Pandas climbing trees, which was a close second.

I had dinner with my a friend at a great tapas place near the Mall on Sunday night. Monday I had all day to sightsee, so I hit up the International Spy Museum, met another friend for lunch, and then walked to the White House (I had never actually seen it in person before!) and over to the Mall. I spent awhile reading in a small botanical garden by the Smithsonian and then headed to the airport to catch my flight home.

I can’t believe I’m leaving for Paris on Sunday. There’s so much to do in the meantime!
